If you have ever looked longingly at the sparkly white smiles of models and celebrities in the glossy magazines, and compared them unfavorably to your own teeth, you may wish to consider this truly life-changing procedure.
What is Digital Smile Design?
Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a procedure in which patients and the dentist work together, and co-design a treatment plan to help achieve a perfect smile. It offers the chance to work with the expert, and have a definitive say in what your future smile will look like. It uses advanced software, and the classic beauty guidelines of Leonardo Da Vinci, to suggest teeth shapes that you and Dr Sofia can then perfect over several in-depth consultations. At this stage, patients have the opportunity to choose their own smile, before any of the dental work begins. Dr Sofia will then turn this into a reality, by presenting you with photographs and videos and guiding you through every step of the process.
How does it work?
In your initial appointment, Dr. Sofia will sit with you and discuss your expectations for a new smile. You will then choose the new shape, size and color of your teeth together, by looking at different slides and photographs, and discussing different cosmetic treatments and their effects. After this initial consultation, your face will be photographed and videoed, and you will have the chance to make sure that the designed smile accurately fits into your face. At a follow-up appointment, you will be given the opportunity to give your brand new smile a test run because temporals are made from the mock-ups of the design, and you will wear these for a few days to ensure you are completely satisfied before any work is carried out. The chance to raise concerns or make changes before any work begins is a valuable benefit of DSD.
In the following appointment(s), Dr. Sofia will take the necessary steps to help create your desired smile, using both general and restorative dental treatments. These can include teeth whitening, gum whitening, veneers, crowns and fillings. Each of these treatments will be discussed with you in detail, to ensure that you are fully aware of the entire process, and the final outcome is exactly what you expect.
How many appointments will it take?
The treatment plan will be as unique as your smile design, and will depend entirely on what has been decided in the initial consultations. It could be as simple as a single-tooth implantation, or be a more involved combination of whitening, veneers, fillings, or crowns. In some cases, the required treatments may only take one session, while in other cases, several appointments might be needed. But when the result is straight, sparkling teeth that you’re delighted to have on show, you’ll really have something to smile about!
