A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for. Even those with normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. This can be hereditary, or due to previous pregnancies, surgeries, spine abnormalities or significant weight fluctuations.

What is abdominoplasty?

Often called a Tummy Tuck, this procedure can produce a tighter, flatter abdomen. Excess fat and skin is removed and weakened or separated muscles are restored, creating an abdominal profile which is smoother and firmer, thus enhancing your body image and confidence. In women who have had a cesarean section, the scars can be incorporated or revised and will have a better appearance. Whatever your reasons for considering this procedure, you can be confident that Euromed’s expert surgeons and state-of-the-art facilities will give you the results you want.

How does it work?

The Tummy Tuck procedure helps restore the tension of the muscular wall and skin of the abdomen, while excess fat is removed by liposuction. The surgery is common in women, as their bodies go through major transformations throughout their lives, such as pregnancy, weight loss/gain and skin aging. In the past, abdominoplasty was only used for ‘extreme’ cases (obesity). However, today, abdominoplasty is used to treat all types of abdomens, even for the smallest corrections. There is no “universal” method; the interview, which takes place during the pre-operative consultation, will help us to make a diagnosis and to present a procedure tailored to your individual needs.

What should I expect from my hospital stay and recovery?

The result of Tummy Tuck is visible immediately and is permanent. Your hospital stay usually varies between 2-5 days depending on the type of procedure and technique used. Initial healing will be 5-10 days and normal daily activities are possible after 2-3 weeks. After Abdominoplasty a specific diet is recommended, which your surgeon will talk you through. Light work is okay after 1-2 rest days at home, although we usually recommend that our patients return to work after 5-7 days. Light exercise such as walking is recommended after 2-3 days, but heavy activity such as sport is not allowed for 6 weeks.
